Determination. The number one enemy of creative writers is mind block. It happens when you have been writing an essay for so long that you seem to have already written about everything, and can no longer think of something new. Determined people do not just give up. Take out the dictionary and then randomly pick a word. For five minutes, write anything about that word. Working on a strange term is more challenging. What does the word remind you? What do you think does it mean? You do not have to be grammar or structure conscious like when you are writing an essay. Just let it all out. This is a writing exercise, after all.
You can also derive your own version of the films you have watched. Take for instance, Pixar's animated film, Up. What will happen to the old Carl Fredricksen if Russell, the young explorer, dies on their way to the wilds of South Africa? Will he feel remorse? Will he still continue the journey?
From the big screen, you can move on to experimenting around the plot of literary classics such as fairy tales.
Though you can start from the formula given by creative writers, it is still a must to develop your own. Tips are mere suggestions to writing an essay. It is not a solution, unless it works for you. And in determining what is best, you hold the wheel. Let your imagination fly, that is how you become a creative writer.
